Are you experiencing suffering or struggle in your family caused by decisions you make that you claim God “called” you to?  It could be that the struggle is a necessary, natural result or consequence of decisions made… sure.  Or it could be that you you’re a little too independent for your own good. 

And by you, I mean me.  Unless this applies to you, too.

NEWS FLASH!!!!!

If you call yourself a wife and a Christian and yet you make decisions for your household, money, children, or future without consulting and seeking the wisdom and leadership of your husband… YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.

Think for a second… about how you are currently experiencing struggle or scarcity of life… in your finances… in your children’s lives… in your marriage…

then trace those struggles back to their causes.  Go back, back, back, back, and back further.

Can you pinpoint any decision you made without FIRST bringing it under the authoritative leadership and wisdom of your husband?

Every cause has an effect.

EVEN if what you choose for your family is RIGHT and GOOD and SCRIPTURAL and SELFLESS and GOD-GLORIFYING… it can cause consequences that tear down your marriage or God’s best intentions for your life and your family if you are trying to build a life without submitting your freedoms, rights, and plans to

Oh and guess what!!!  YOUR HUSBAND WILL BE WRONG!!! WOOOHOOOOOO!!! That’s fun!!  Yep, he’ll be dead wrong. At least in your eyes.

And yet, you’ll have to zip your lips and submit.

This is awesome.  Blech.

Because God doesn’t say – submit to your husband – unless your idea is better, unless he’s not thinking, unless he’s not your vision of a “spiritual leader”, unless he’s being selfish and stubborn and is clearly on crack.

Nope.  No provisions made there.  God made man, and knew he would need help – so he made you.  Check Genesis. BOOM.

He did not say rule your husband.  Make purchases without telling your husband.  Plan the entire family’s week schedule without including your husband.  Create an entire vision for your family and future, without your husband’s input.  Move people in, move your family out, give money, give food, go workout, go work, go out, enroll, check out, go right, go left forward or backward, whatever!

And if this sounds a little detailed… if seeking your husband out in the smallest details of life makes you cringe… there’s a good indication of where your heart is on this.

The deal is, it’s not about permission.  It’s about cultivating a relationship that honors God, honors your husband, and, of course, humbles your heart.  God is always after your heart.

SO, with all this in mind, I have a challenge for you.  And by you, again, I mean me.

Not gonna’ lie, when God put this in my face, I exhaled a sigh out loud… and not a sigh of relief.  More like a sigh of… Awww, crap.

I can already feel some Stacey-shaving in my near future.  Glorious.

But, isn’t it?  Isn’t it glorious that God gives us opportunities for growth in this crazy, sacred gift called marriage?  We should tread carefully anytime he does this and we flippantly choose to continue to do our own thing.  Yikes.
